Getting ready, heading to the train and arriving at the New Year’s Countdown at Central World was exciting and thrilling. My heart couldn’t stop racing as the time passed. With all the people and lights around me, my inner child beamed with joy.
Noticing the crowd by the stage outside the mall, I knew it would be hard to get out of that area, if my family and I went in there. I suggested that we should go eat first, and that’s what we did. Once we finished, my sister said that she wanted to see the concert, so we looked for the nearest exit.
When we were walking to the concert everything was normal, until it started getting more and more crowded, and people were pushing each other. It became chaotic; I couldn’t help but get worried. I decided to ignore the thought, not wanting to ruin the mood. The closer we were to the concert the worse the crowd became. Everyone was getting squished and simply breathing became difficult. My mom felt lightheaded, so I asked my dad if we could go inside the mall first to try to escape, but he told me that we were almost at the end of the crowd. This fueled my worries and my happiness turned into anxiousness.

Eventually we got to the most jam-packed area in Central World. By now, all we were trying to do was leave, but nobody was moving because they wanted to enjoy the concert. Even when my dad shouted that my mom was about to faint, no one moved. We were nervous, but we reassured each other whenever one of us felt hopeless. There was even a girl who asked if she could join us because she has been stuck there for a long time.
Everything was now out of control. My dad had to force his way through by pushing and even shouting. I stayed close to my dad while constantly looking back to ensure the safety of my mother. My sister tried to block others from pushing my mother by using her hands. Working together helped us make it past most of the crowd unharmed, but we still couldn’t leave. Luckily we found a police officer who was able to help us get through the crowd.

Once we got to a less packed place, we stopped to catch our breaths. Then we decided that this wasn’t worth it, so we headed to the train station. Along the way, we walked past a group of police officers who seemed to be chatting. Which is understandable, since the size of the spectators made it difficult to notice the pushing that was happening within the crowd. My family and I could only pray for the safety of the individuals who were stuck in the midst of the audience.
Ultimately, we arrived at the train station and watched the fireworks from there, because it was less crowded and it was better than nothing. Once we arrived at the station, we had 9 minutes to spare before the clock struck midnight. The fireworks flew into the sky exploding beautifully, however our view was blocked by many buildings. After that, we got on the train, as the train was moving it slowed down near the mall to allow the passengers to admire the fireworks with a much better view. Though I didn’t enjoy it as much, I realized that this experience had brought my family closer. It created an even stronger bond between the four of us and I’m glad we were able to overcome the problems together.
